THE NEW YORK TIMES | 175th BIRTHDAY + NEW YEAR'S EVE 2026

A short historical montage for The New York Times, screened live in Times A\Square on New Years' Eve 2026

Year: 2025

Role: Director

Editor: Kristin Bye

Producer: Paul McGuire

Running Time: 1 minute

To inaugurate the coming 175th birthday year of The New York Times in 2026, as well as its vivid formative history in Times' Square and creation of the annual New Years' Eve ball drop tradition, this short, cinematic montage was created to depict the rich history of independent journalism of the New York Times and its growth from its namesake Times Square to its world-spanning presence, today and tomorrow. This film was premiered live on the Times Square jumbotrons and on broadcast television, with an in-person introduction by The New York Times chairman and publisher, A.G. Sulzberger as part of the celebratory 2026 New Years' Eve global broadcast.

JORDI SAVALL AT CARNEGIE HALL

A rare profile of Catalan viol master and music historian Jordi Savall. (Screening link available by request.)

Year: 2026

Role: Director, Editor

Producer: Judith Mizrachy

Cinematographer: Nelson Hume

Running Time: 17.5 minutes

Catalan conductor, composer, performer and music historian, Jordi Savall is perhaps the greatest living interpreter and historians of early music. Additionally – and almost singlehandedly – Savall has brought about the worldwide revival of music for the viola da gamba (including it's prominent role in the highly-acclaimed film by Alain Corneau, "Tous les matins du monde"). At age 83, Savall argues passionately about the power of music to bridge cultures and overcome differences. Though profiled twice by Alex Ross on the pages of the New Yorker ("The King of Spain", "The Quiet Man"), and in The New York Times, most American music listeners have never heard his name. He is a phenomenon throughout Europe, however, and the recipient of countless prizes and distinctions, including the UNESCO Artist For Peace Award. This rare English-language portrait, filmed in the historic archives at Carnegie Hall, features Savall in intimate and personal conversation: reflecting on his life's work, his singular instrument, and - perhaps most importantly - his unshakeable belief in the power of music to find connection, compassion and understanding.

"YEARS OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY" (Season One)

Role: Producer, Cinematographer

Camera: Canon C300

Broadcast: Showtime

Format: 9-part documentary series

www.YearsOfLivingDangerously.com

Recipient of 2014 Emmy Award for "Outstanding Documentary of Nonfiction Series"

As "Years of Living Dangerously" was still being developed, I joined creators David Gelber and Joel Bach to edit a sizzle – or pitch – reel for the project.  Months later, executive producers James Cameron, Jerry Weintraub and Arnold Schwarzenegger joined the project and the show was picked up by Showtime.  Production began in Fall 2012, and I produced stories in the Chilean Andes and in NYC following the impacts of Hurrican Sandy: Staten Island and The Rockaways.  For those stories, and a number of other stories, I also contributed additional cinematography.

EPISODE THREE – "RISING TIDE"

Role: Producer, Cinematographer

Camera: Canon C300 & 5D

Location: Staten Island

Correspondent: Chris Hayes

Episode Website

We spent a lot of time in The Rockaways and Staten Island after Hurricane Sandy hit.  The destruction our crews witnessed along the Rockaway Pennisula and on the shores of the Raritan Bay is impossible to describe.  One of the most difficult and tragic stories of all was that of Staten Island resident Pat Dresch, who's harrowing story we told up close.  I spent a lot of time with Pat, and still cannot comprehend how something so tragic could happen to such a good and gentle person.

EPISODE NINE – "MOVING A MOUNTAIN"

Role: Producer

Location: Tupungatito Volcano, Chile

Correspondent: M Sanjayan

Episode Website

Our crew followed Paul Mayewski, one of the world's foremost climate scientists, and his research team to the top of a volcano near the border of Chile and Argentina called Tupangatito.  There, at roughly 20,000ft, sits a glacier with scientific clues to past climate events going back, in some cases, over 100,000 years.  This was without doubt one of the most difficult experiences of my life!  I was in continued awe at the skill and strength of the scientists and local arrieros (cowboys) who helped us – and in equal awe of the enormous risks under which scientists like Paul and his team do their critical work.
