My love of movies began with soundtracks. Some of the first cassette tapes I had as a kid in the 1980s were movie scores: Philip Glass's Koyanisquaatsi, Angelo Badalamenti's Lynch scores, Ennio Morricone's The Mission and his westerns, Bernard Hermann's Taxi Driver, Nino Rota's Fellini scores, Thomas Newman's atmospheric new sound. As a filmmaker, movies have always felt profoundly musical to me. Working alongside composers to create the scores to my films is one of the most exciting times in the process for me. In 2019, I began writing music for picture, most notably projects for Tiffany & Co, The Whitney Museum, and films for PBS and Netflix.
